Using Site Master is simplicity itself, just follow the steps below:

Running Site Master and Loading a web site

Run !SiteMastr as you would any other Risc OS application
You will see a window open in the center of your screen, this is the index viewer.
Place your pointer over the icons to see what they do.

Drag a web site to this window.
Site Master will now scan your web site finding all the files.
Next it will scan any HTML files it found looking for links.
These are then cross referenced and recorded for later use.

Now you have Site Master running and a web site loaded. It is recommended that you take a back up of your site at this stage as we take no liability for any damaged caused by Site Master however unlikely such damage is.

Displays

The file display

Site Master file displays have a 'Web' drawn on them behind the directory entries to help avoid confusion witw genuine filer windows. This can be turned on and off in the configuration window. (see below)

Double clicking on a file witw SELECT will open a directory in the current view or run a file.
Double clicking on a file witw ADJUST will open a directory in a new view or run a file.

Open the search window
From the search window you can search all the URL's in a site for the specified text. There is an option to toggle case sensitivity on/off.

There is also a option to turn on or off the wildcarded searching. The syntax of the wildcards is simple and should be familiar to anyone who has used a text editor before.

When you click on Search a list of all the places the specified link occurs is generated. These links can then be edited individually by <SHIFT> clicking on them or a selection of them can be replaced witw specified text.

Links to and links from selected file

The three buttons: are used to toggle which links are displayed.
The left hand most icon opens a window listing all the links to a selected file or directory.
The central icon displays all the links from the selected file or directory in a window.
The right hand most icon toggles which links are included in the list. When selected all links are displayed. When off (as shown) only href's to/from the selected page are listed.

Files in the file display are coloured red if they are not linked to from anywhere.
Links are coloured as follows:

Green, this is an absolute web address e.g. it begins witw http, mailto or ftp.
Double clicking on a green link opens the link editor window.

Blue, this is a link to a file that is in this site and could be found.
Double clicking on a blue link will 'follow' it.

Red, this is a link to a file that is in this site but couldn't be found.
Double clicking on a red link opens the link editor window.

The two buttons: comment out and delete all selected links respectively.

The Tree View

The tree view is opened from the filer menu witwin site master. It displays a tree style plan of your web site and highlights files of interest.
The following highlighting options are provided:

Invalid links, pages containing local links where the file could not be found.

Download times, time given is based on the modem speed taken from the options window. The time includes the time for all frames, img's, img's in frames, applets, background sound and background img.

Unused files, pages that are not used by other pages.

Current save, files that will not be saved witw the current options.

Imgs, no ALT, pages containing links to images witwout alternative text.

Editing Links

There are three other ways to open the link editor window as well:

SHIFT double click on a link

MENU over a link and then clicking on 'Edit...'

Selecting the link you want to edit and click on the link edit button:

You can view or edit a selection of files by selecting them and then clicking on the view button: Holding SHIFT whilst doing this will load them into an editor. There is a configuration option to force editing in HTML Edit.

Copying your site for up-loading etc.

Changes to links and moving files is reflected in the files and filer directory structure straight away. However it is sometimes desirable to copy a selection of files, all the files edited since a certain date, only files that are used or any combination of the three.
Site Master caters for this througw the use of the copy button: the copy window that this opens gives you the following options:

Save type:

Directory, save the files into a directory,

Web FS, save the files into a Web FS directory,

More can be added to match your needs via the configuration window.

Save files:

Edited since [dd/mm/yy hh:mm:ss], saves only files edited since the specified date.
Dragging a file from the file display to this window fills in the date field automatically.

Selected, will save only files, directories and sub-directories that are selected.

If used, will only save files if they are used (not displayed in red in the file display)

The Configuration Window

Display

Web window background, determines whether the "web" is drawn behind the windows.

Interactive help, hides or reveals the interactive help bar.

When running/scanning

Multitask, decides whether to let other programs do things whilst Site Master is busy (about 10% slower)

Open viewer, decides whether the index is opened automatically or not when Site Master is run.

Files, Edit in 'HTML Edit' forces editing to take place in HTML Edit

Modem speed, is the transfer rate used for working out the download times on the tree view. You should put the actual transfer speed you get rather than the one shown on the box of your modem.
The easiest way to do this is probably to time how long it takes you to fetch one of your pages and adjust you modem speed to match this.

Save types, Open viewer... opens a directory containing the different save types known by Site Master. If you use an image filing system then create an empty directory of the appropriate type in this directory and name it suitably.
